Beard balm: what is it for and how to use it properly?

Oil and balm do not do the same job. ZAYT nourishes and softens; SABR beard balm mainly helps to discipline and give a neater shape.
If your beard is already soft but goes in every direction, adding even more oil won't necessarily solve the problem. This is precisely where a balm becomes useful.
What is a beard balm for? Mainly to discipline the hairs, provide hold, and structure the shape. Depending on its formula, it can also nourish or soften — but it is not the same job as a liquid oil.
SABR combines a base rich in shea butter and beeswax with several vegetable oils. Its texture provides more structure than a liquid oil, while maintaining a natural hold.
What is a beard balm actually for?
Disciplining unruly hairs
The texture of the balm helps to guide the hairs and reduce the messy appearance of a beard that refuses to stay in place.
Giving structure
Beeswax provides a flexible hold: the goal is not to freeze the beard, but to maintain a cleaner shape throughout the day.
Complementing a dry beard
Shea, coconut, sweet almond, black seed, and hemp complete the formula. If the beard is very dry, ZAYT remains the most direct step to nourish it, and SABR can be used afterward for structure.
Balm or oil: the essentials
A beard oil like ZAYT penetrates easily, nourishes, and softens the lengths. A balm like SABR provides a richer texture: it helps to discipline hairs that stick out and give a neater shape.

SABR — simple, rich, structuring
The complete and updated INCI list for each variant is on the SABR product page. The balm notably contains shea butter and beeswax.
SABR is currently available in Cuir Vanille 100 g, Cuir Caramel 100 g and Naturel 150 g. Availability may vary depending on the variant.
For which beard should you use a balm?
A balm becomes relevant when:
- hairs are unruly or going in all directions;
- the beard is thick and difficult to keep in shape;
- you are looking for a structured finish rather than just added softness.
If your beard is mainly dry or coarse without any hold issues, an oil often remains the first useful step.
How to apply a beard balm?
Take a small amount of product
Start with a small pea-sized amount. You can always add more; excess product makes the beard heavy more easily.
Warm between palms
A few seconds are enough to soften the balm and distribute it evenly over your hands.
Apply then style
Distribute from the roots to the tips, then use your fingers, a comb, or a brush to give it the desired shape.
Simple order: ZAYT if you use an oil, then SABR to discipline and structure.
